Trieste Early Jazz Orchestra - One night at the Cotton Club

Saturday 1st February at 8.30 pm at the Kulturni dom-House of culture in Prosecco (TS) there will be the show “A night at the Cotton Club” of the Trieste Early Jazz Orchestra-TEJO. The orchestra directed by maestro Livio Laurenti is one of the few in the world to present a repertoire of music from the 1920s and 1930s in the original arrangements and with the instrumental ensemble of the first big bands that appeared in the roaring 20s.

The musicians are Sebastiano Frattini on violin, Boštjan Simon and Marcello Sfetez on alto sax, Piero Purich on tenor sax, Flavio Davanzo and Roberto Santagati on trumpet, Matija Mlakar on trombone, Marko Rupel on bass tuba, Tiziano Bole on guitar, Giulio Scaramella on piano and Tom Hmeljak on drums. The performers are among the best musicians of the regional and Slovenian scene, and are accompanied in the show by the singers Paolo Venier and Ana Pilat, by the vocal trio Anakrousis, by the lindy hop dancers from Ljubljana Metod Javornik and Eva Pocivavšek Janhar and by the tap artists Matteo Lo Piccolo and Martina Mazziero of the Toc toc school of Trieste.

The show re-proposes the music and atmospheres of the Broadway of the roaring decade of 1925-1935, with a jazz played, sung and danced in an overwhelming way: a music that unfortunately over the decades has been forgotten, but 90 years later still shows everything its engaging vitality. The concert is therefore an opportunity to enjoy the lively refinement of some musical pearls of early jazz, a genre that is easily appreciated by all for its lightness and ease of listening.

TEJO has two CDs to its credit: "Trieste Early Jazz Orchestra Live In Rimini" recorded during the jazz festival of the city of Romagna (recording that received flattering reviews, including that of the prestigious Amadeus magazine and the live CD "Una Notte Al Cotton Club "recorded at the Bobbio theater in Trieste in 2018.
