News archive

Monday, September 16, 2019 at 8.30 pm, at the Cathedral of San Giusto, the 41st edition of "Settembre Musicale" kicks off, a concert event dear to the Trieste audience passionate about sacred and organ music and music in general, organized by the Civic Chapel and the parish of san Giusto but the fruit of the collaboration of several associations (Municipality of Trieste - Department of Culture - Association "Promusica" - Association "Alfred Tomatis") to which, this year, the Organ Academy Tergestina and the Conservatory "G . Tartini "of Trieste.

It will continue for every Monday of September (same place, same time) to end on October 1, for a total of five evenings, offering a program as rich and varied as ever. The exhibition will be open, Monday 3 September, from a great name of international concertism, that of the German Ludger Lohmann, engaged in a varied and very demanding repertoire consisting of important pages of the baroque, romantic and contemporary repertoire. This evening also marks the collaboration, at an organizational level, with a very active reality in the city territory, that of the Tergestina Organist Academy, for which M. Lohmann will hold a masterclass the days following the concert.

The second appointment of the event, Monday 10, will see the collaboration with another very important musical institution of the city of Trieste, that of the “G. Tartini "; in fact the Brass Quintet of the Conservatory, with the participation of the organist Riccardo Cossi, will lead us in a fascinating musical journey that will find in the Baroque literature of Haendel, Bach, Purcell and Stanley their own chosen territory, with two fleeting forays into Venetian Renaissance of the Gabrieli and in the Russian nineteenth century by Mussorgsky. Of great musical and musicological interest is the concert on Monday 17 which will involve the Florentine but now Triestine adoptionist Vincenzo Ninci, whose qualities are therefore well known to the audience of the Julian city.

A substantial synthesis of a concert will be proposed that the French composer and organist Joseph Bonnet, of whom M. ° Ninci is a profound connoisseur and a valued performer, held precisely in Trieste exactly ninety years ago and that reproposes the model of “ historical recital ", which presents itself as an" excursus ", with pedagogical-musicological aims, along the history of organ literature, from the most ancient schools to the contemporary. The fourth concert will be dedicated to the important anniversary of the 480th anniversary of the birth of the Civic Chapel (1838/2018), which will take place on Monday 24th and which will involve, together with the Civic Chapel, also the San Giusto Youth Orchestra, born in 2015 within the Diocese of Trieste on the initiative of Don Lorenzo Magarelli; a happy occasion of collaboration for two realities, one very young and one instead with a centuries-old history, linked in different ways to the Diocese of our city. The program includes a purely orchestral first part while in the second part the choir of the Civic Chapel will also be presented, presenting a romantic and modern repertoire centered on the mystery of the Passion and Death of Christ.

To conclude the review of this year an appointment that is characterized by the originality of the proposal; for the occasion, in fact, the Mascioni organ of the Cathedral, entrusted to the titular organist Riccardo Cossi, will dialogue with a bajan, a Russian chromatic accordion with buttons, and with accordionist Maurizio Marchesich. The program will be almost entirely dedicated to the great figure of Johann Sebastian Bach and to the practice of transcription which many of his music has been subjected to but which he himself has frequently put in place, both in relation to his own works and those of others. An appointment, therefore, that will conclude the exhibition, marrying tradition and innovation, at the same time witnessing the love for the great historical repertoire that precedes us and the inevitable tension towards new experiments and timbrical and sound horizons.
